SKYMUN Executive Team 2014
Honourable Delegates, Esteemed Guests,
My name is Min Byung Chae, a sophomore attending Seoul Foreign School. It is my utmost honour to serve you as the President of Economic and Social Council and an Executive Member in this first revived edition of SKYMUN Conference.
This is my third year as a proud MUN-er; SKYMUN marks my seventh MUN conference. Just like most of the delegates in SKYMUN, I was first introduced to Model United Nations in Middle School. My diplomatic and middle-ground personality fit the professional and informed MUN community. Since then, I have participated in various conferences around the world and in varying degrees, including SEOMUN, BEIMUN, MADMUN, and KMUN. Most recently, I served as a deputy assistant president in General Assembly I in SEOMUN 2013.
In this specialized committee, delegates will face challenging global issues, including the issue of solving the debt crisis of Eurozone nations. Although you may feel let down by the gravity and the difficulty of dealing with such topics, I am firmly confident that you are able to overcome these 'hurdles' and do your best in resolving these pressing issues. Before and throughout the conference, I highly encourage you to explore the issues from various viewpoints, exercise your creativity in devising ingenious and pragmatic solutions, converse freely with other delegates and the chairs, persuade the floor of your strong opinions, and critically examine each others' solutions and arguments.
It is my true hope that this forum could provide the young delegates with a rewarding and enriching MUN experience. My co-chairs and I promise to help you grow in the areas of debate, research, and persuasion, all to be conducted in an adequate, professional environment, under my personal motto of "Professionalism and Enthusiasm."
With all due respect,
Min Byung Chae

Greetings Delegates,
Welcome to SKYMUN. I am Junwon Park, currently a junior at Korea International School. It is an honor for me to serve you as this year’s President of Human Rights Council.
As an officer of the MUN club in my own school, I feel deeply connected to SKYMUN–a conference essentially designed for the younger delegates out there. This conference is likely going to be the first MUN conference for many participants. It’s my privilege to be a part of your first MUN experience; the experience from which you’ll learn the joy of tackling world-scale issues, the joy of convincing tens of intelligent delegates from schools other than your own, and the joy of participating in MUN.
To be a delegate in Human Rights Council is a noble task. When facing issues that involve the fundamental human rights of socially disadvantaged and weak minorities, delegates must possess an utmost level of responsibility. At the same time, a delegate shouldn’t assume that the complex questions being discussed in HRC can simply be answered by blindly supporting the minorities’ rights only: to truly protect their rights, the delegates must propose a solution that is innovative, yet practical and culturally acceptable. Unlike some other topics in MUN, topics regarding human rights can not be compromised with: for example, one group's rights can not be sacrificed for the rights of another. A society either has justice, or it doesn't; if there is no complete justice, then it is, by definition, injustice. For the same reason, there must be universal human rights for everyone, everywhere, everytime. It is a tough task, but an important one.
Dear Human Rights Council of SKYMUN, I am excited to be able to work for such a noble cause with you all. Let's make this conference successful together!
Best regards,
Junwon Park

Esteemed Delegates, Advisers, Student Officers, and Guests,
My name is Jung Hyun (Monica) Lee, and I am currently a junior attending Korea International School. I am truly honored to serve you as this year’s President of the Security Council and executive member.
MUN opened my eyes to the world of international relations, kindled my interest in debating on global issues, and provided me with the opportunity to work with some of the most talented individuals. Needless to say, each MUN conference that I have participated in was an unforgettable experience.
As the only committee with the ability to exercise military enforcement, the Security Council is a committee renowned for its proficiency and ardor in debate. In fact, delegates of the Security Council will be asked to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues. Though maintaining international peace and security may seem like a daunting task, it is my sincerest hope that you will take on this challenge knowing that it will be a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Sincerely,
Monica Lee
